Remodeling your home or business in Key West is a major investment—and choosing the right contractor is just as important as selecting materials or layouts. At Liz Carpentry, we believe the difference lies not just in what we build, but how we build it.

Whether it’s a custom kitchen, new addition, hurricane window installation, or full renovation, we follow a clear, proven process to ensure quality, transparency, and satisfaction—every time.

Here’s what you can expect when you hire Liz Carpentry for your next project.

Step 1 – Initial Consultation

Every successful project starts with a conversation. During your initial call or meeting, we’ll talk through:

  • What you want to build or renovate

  • Your home’s current condition and layout

  • Style preferences, needs, and must-haves

  • Budget expectations and timeline goals

We’ll also share examples of similar projects and answer questions about permits, hurricane code compliance, and working in the Florida Keys.

Serving Key West and surrounding communities since 2005, we understand the unique building challenges of island living.

Step 2 – On-Site Assessment & Measurements

Once we’ve talked through your goals, we’ll schedule a site visit to see the space in person. This allows us to:

  • Take accurate measurements

  • Assess structural needs

  • Identify potential issues (moisture, damage, accessibility)

  • Photograph the space for design reference

  • Begin mapping out your options

We’ll also check for signs of salt air exposure or outdated framing—common in coastal homes.

Step 3 – Design, Planning & Material Selection

Depending on the scope of your project, we’ll either work from existing plans or help you design a layout that meets your needs. This is where the vision really comes to life.

We’ll walk you through:

  • Cabinet designs, door styles, hardware, and paint

  • Flooring, tile, and countertop options

  • Window and door choices (including impact-rated models)

  • Layout improvements for light, space, and flow

  • Code-compliant upgrades for hurricane protection

You’ll receive a detailed estimate and timeline—and we won’t move forward until everything’s clear.

Step 4 – Permits & Preparation

Liz Carpentry is a licensed and insured general contractor with years of experience navigating Monroe County permitting requirements. We handle:

  • Submitting permits and documentation

  • Scheduling inspections

  • Communicating with your HOA if needed

  • Ordering materials and confirming delivery timelines

You’ll receive updates every step of the way, so you’re never left guessing.

Step 5 – Construction Begins

Now the fun part starts. Our team shows up on time, fully prepared, and treats your home with the respect it deserves. Depending on your project, this stage may include:

For Remodeling Projects:

  • Demolition and debris removal

  • Structural framing and framing corrections

  • Cabinet building or installation

  • Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC integration

  • Drywall, painting, flooring, trim, and finishes

For Exterior Projects:

  • Window and door removal/replacement

  • Weatherproofing and flashing

  • Siding or decking upgrades

  • Exterior painting or stucco repair

Throughout the build, our team keeps your site clean and organized—with as little disruption as possible.

Step 6 – Ongoing Communication & Inspections

We believe in being proactive, not reactive. You’ll receive regular check-ins, progress photos, and scheduling updates.

We also coordinate:

  • City or county inspections (where required)

  • Milestone reviews to confirm everything is on track

  • Mid-project walkthroughs for layout and material confirmations

Step 7 – Final Walkthrough & Punch List

As the project nears completion, we’ll walk the entire space with you—inspecting finishes, fixtures, alignment, and functionality. If there’s anything you want tweaked or adjusted, we’ll take care of it before closing the job.

Your satisfaction is our finish line.

Step 8 – Post-Project Support

Even after the work is done, we’re still here for you. Clients often call us back for:

  • Additional rooms or phase two remodels

  • Maintenance or adjustments

  • New builds and referrals

We build relationships, not just rooms—and many of our clients become long-term partners.
